Cijay and I both had a full day off this past Memorial Day Weekend, so we were able to spend the whole day together playing outdoors. I convinced Cijay to go somewhere different than our normal beaches and we decided on Maha’ulepu Beach which is located in Poipu on the South Side of the island. There is a small little trail located right off the beach which leads to a beautiful cliff side, so we went on a quick 30 minute hike on Maha’ulepu Trail before hitting the beach!
Maha’ulepu Beach is actually pretty special to Cijay and I because it was where he proposed to me and we haven’t been back since (which was 5 years ago)! It actually felt really heartwarming bringing Mia to this beach. The last time we were there we were getting engaged and now we are married sharing this special location with our daughter. I also get emotional about EVERYTHING, so don’t mind me haha.
We parked at Shipwrecks (which is always a pain to park at because it gets so busy, and on Memorial Day it was even worse!) but by some miracle we found a parking spot right away! I get super excited about finding good parking spots, sorry, okay…moving on! So, we parked and walked towards the trail which actually starts right off the side of Shipwreck Beach. It is a super easy trail, Mia was able to walk it just fine, but you do get to some steep cliff sides, so I would definitely be careful with your children in those areas. I could have stayed up at the top of these cliffs forever, the weather was so beautiful and the views were stunning, but Mia was having a tantrum because she wanted her snacks (she’s literally always screaming for snacks!), so we made it a quick trip and headed down to Maha’ulepu Beach.
By the way, Cijay was having a heart attack at this point lol. He is so overprotective of Mia and I when we are anywhere that might be dangerous and he did not like that we were close to the edge of the cliffs. I always feel that he’s a little over dramatic in these moments because we were not close enough to the edge to be in danger lol. Even though I do tend to be the one in our relationship who is more adventurous and risky, I would NEVER put Mia in danger! I do think it’s sweet that he worries about us so much though 😉
I’m pretty sure I was saying “We made it!”, and I’m pretty sure Mia was saying “Give me my snaaaaaacks!” haha
…then she calmed down and gave me a kiss and said “sorry mommy”… melt my heart!
We headed back down the cliff and got in our car to head to Maha’ulepu Beach! It’s only a few minute drive down the road from the trail. There are two spots you can stop for the beach, the first spot is about half way down the road and the second spot is at the very end of the road. We stopped at the first spot. There surprisingly wasn’t that many people on the beach, considering it was a holiday, so we were pretty excited to have a lot of space to ourselves. It really was the perfect day. We had great weather and a beautiful beach to play on! The beach is also Mia’s favorite place to go right now, literally when we wake her up in the mornings, she immediately says “MOM, BEACH!” haha.
Just some awesome family photos below!…These are the best we’re going to get for a little while because Mia HATES getting her picture taken, but these kind of photos are becoming my favorite anyway haha.
Mia loves having Cijay dig for crabs!
A wave came, and then she was over it! haha
Just trying to be a bikini beach model and then that damn wave came back and ruined it for me! LOL
