It has been non stop rain and gloom here in Kauai for months now and after last weeks devastating flooding, this island was in need of sunshine more than ever. Well, this weekend our prayers were answered and the sun finally came out! We knew we had to get outside immediately and take advantage of this beautiful weather!
I’m not going to lie, I was also excited that we were finally able to put on one of Mia’s new bathing suits that we’ve had for months but haven’t been able to use because of the weather. The first bathing suit of choice was this incredibly cute suit that Mia’s Aunt Joanna got for her! I’ve been wanting a long sleeve suit for Mia for a while because I love that it can protect her skin a little more from the sun. I also love this brand of suits because they are all reversible, so it’s like you have two suits in one, plus the quality is amazing! Once we got ourselves ready, it took a little while to figure out where we were going to go since all of the ocean water is still really dirty and there’s so much debris and damage everywhere. It left us pretty limited on where we could go exploring, but we decided to start at Loop Road which is located at the very end of Kuamoo Road in Wailua. We mostly wanted to see what the damage was like in this area, plus it’s a great place for Mia to throw rocks in the water, which she is strangely obsessed with doing lately, haha.
There used to be a small bridge here and it’s completely gone now after being washed away during the flood. It was the original bridge up here at loop road before they built the large bridge on the right.
I’m not sure why throwing rocks is so much fun for Mia right now, but she loves it!
None of these rocks were here before the flood.
After we stopped by Loop Road for a little bit, we decided to head down to Wailua Beach right near our house. We knew we couldn’t get in the water because it’s still too dirty, but we figured we could let Mia play around in the sand and get a little sun on our faces! It’s so crazy how different certain areas are after the flood. I wish I could show you some of the videos I’ve seen people post of the north shore as they begin to clean up right now, certain places are unrecognizable. Majority of our beaches will probably look like this for quite some time, full of debris, but of course Mia found it to be a ton of fun getting to play with all of the sticks.
Mia LOVES when daddy helps her dig for crabs and she’s not even scared of them. As you can see below, she was very proud when she finally got one and got to hold it in her hand!
This is the debris that is still left under the Wailua bridge. The city has been working every night to clear it out and they have done an amazing job because it was SO much worse than this a few days ago. Unfortunately there is still so much more to clean up.
